On a hot July afternoon in 1983, about a dozen members of a beginning Hammered Dulcimer class met at a park in Wyandotte, MI to review what they had learned together.  This was the beginning of the Silver Strings Dulcimer Society.  Since then, the club has grown to over 100 members playing a variety of acoustic instruments, about half of which are Hammered Dulcimers.

The purpose of the organization is to play the hammered dulcimer together with other instruments for our enjoyment, and to promote and encourage knowledge of the hammered dulcimer through regularly scheduled meetings, workshops, performances, newsletters and other related activities. The official club theme song is Westphalia Waltz.

Silver Strings invites you to join us in music, fun and fellowship. Silver Strings is open to all who are interested playing or listening to Old Time Music. We feature the hammered dulcimer, with a variety of other acoustic instruments including mountain dulcimer, guitar, fiddle, banjo, autoharp, string bass, washtub bass, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, and tin whistle. Learn new tunes and techniques, jam together with other players at monthly meetings, receive copies of sheet music, a monthly newsletter, and participate in workshops, festivals, public performances, picnics, fun and fellowship.

Silver Strings annually hosts the "Friends and Family" campout, a weekend of sharing companionship and acoustic music.  This event is held at Myer's Lake Campground, Byron, MI.  Scheduled events include jams, slow-jams, variety time, workshops, and crafts.

Other significant Silver Strings accomplishments have included a cassette recording in 1996, a CD recording in 1998, monthly newsletters, annual banquets, and hosted special concerts by Mark Wade, Rick Thum, Cathy Barton, Dave Para and other performers.
